Hidden Postage Savings!

Attention, Attention there is a SALE on aisle 3 at your local Post Office.

Reduce Postage Expense by up to 28%

If you’re like me, you love a good SALE. What if you could do that at the Post Office? You could just drop your bulk mailing on the counter, and whisper “Mr./Mrs. Postmaster I would like to have a discount please,” and BOOM you magically receive 25% off. That’d be good enough to share with your friends, right? You might even go viral.

They do. If you’ll just do a little bit of prep work on the front end, the Postal Service will give you postage discounts with gratitude. Consider it a thank you from the Postal Service; an appreciation if you will for helping them out. Sounds pretty nice, Right? Almost a little too good to be true? I can assure you it’s not too good to be true. It’s happening every single day. The Postal Service has been doing this for years with their bulk mail customers all over the U.S.

At the time of this writing a First-Class Stamp is $0.55. I know what you’re thinking WHAT?!?!, when did stamps get to $0.55? If you don’t believe me, check the current rate for yourself by looking up the current price list. Look under Retail Prices and find First-Class Mail®. Then go to Retail-Single Piece Letter (Stamped) and find 1 ounce. I know looking at all the pricing options can get a bit overwhelming, but you don’t have to decipher all of that right now, that’s a discussion for another day.

Using all available postal discounts, we provide the lowest postage possible for your statement, invoice, bill, and notice mailings.

Where possible, we validate each address, re-sort the mailpieces into the most concentrated delivery area available, and add the Postal Intelligent Mail Barcode (IMB) to the address area. This helps them automate the processing of your mailpieces. Pretty much the Postal Service gets to skip a step with your mail so that’s why they’re generous and give you postage discounts.

All that work puts your mailpieces into a different section of the price list. Now go look at Commercial Prices > First-Class Mail, then look under Letters & Cards > Commercial Letters & Postcards. That same one-ounce, First-Class letter that would have cost you $0.55 earlier will now have a discount applied to it. It could cost as little as $0.398, depending on how many other pieces you have going to the same 5-Digit ZIP Code. I know you’re still thinking WHAT!?!?

Saving postage on mail pieces that are all identical is easy. Saving on mailings where the postage can vary from piece to piece is not so easy, but luckily for you that has been our specialty since 1997.

My bank statement may have three pages. Yours may have five. Your business statement might have nine. They all weigh a different amount and are different thicknesses. How do you calculate the different postage amounts required for the different pieces? It’s called a manifest mailing. Ole Mr. Webster defines manifest as, “a list of passengers or an invoice of cargo for a vehicle (such as a ship or plane)”.

Like a ship or plane’s manifest that inventories everything in it, a postal manifest lists each mailpiece, how much each mailpiece weighs, how much postage each mailpiece requires, along with sorting information and other required information.

Our flagship software, AutoMail does all this work for you, by making your mailpieces automation compatible. This qualifies you to pay the lowest postage possible if you want to print and mail it yourself. So pretty much your postage is on SALE, and again if you’re anything like me you love a good SALE.

Our statement processing division, Document Output Center (DOC), will do the Postal automation work plus print, fold/insert, seal, and deliver to the Post Office for you. You send us your files, we do ALL the work, and you still get the same postage savings. Sounds pretty good, right?

To satisfy the legal team, I need to let you know that there are conditions that must be met to qualify for discounted postage such as: at least 500 pieces with valid addresses, with pieces less than ¼” (0.25) thick and weigh less than 3.5 oz., must be able to be sorted before printed, etc.

Like a good SALE at your favorite department store, postal discounts are available. You just need a little help finding and applying them. Let us be that resource for you.
